10 Work From Home Must-Haves

If you’re working from home, you spend most of your time in your home office or living space.

Keeping both spaces functional, organized, and tidy is super-important. And it’s totally doable with a few working-at-home essentials.

Staying organized in these spaces:

  • Keeps you from wasting a bunch of time (rummaging for food; finding the stapler!)
  • Makes your home and work environments nurturing and pleasant.
  • Increases productivity and work satisfaction (especially if you’re neurodivergent like me)
  • Prevents that awful “my space is chaotic” feeling from happening
  • Can even be a visual cue that reminds you to take that self-care moment.

Here are links to 10 work from home must-haves (links are affiliate - use them if you wish).

I use all these organizational go-tos in my living and office spaces.

Sometimes, I use them in both!

Let’s break it down.

Organization Essentials for Working from Home

Work from Home Organization Ideas Good for LIVING SPACES + OFFICES

I use these items in my living spaces and my home office. They keep me organized so I’m not scattered and wasting time looking for stuff. They also give me peace of mind and keep me feeling good about the places I spend most of my time in.

Small Woven Baskets

You can find these cute baskets all over my home - bedroom, living room, office, and kitchen.

They’re stable, and I can put quite a bit in them. I found similar ones at Target, so there are multiple places to source them.

I use them for holding stuff I’d rather keep hidden in my open-facing cabinets.

They hold my cat’s toys nicely, and I also keep scarves in them.

While I use these in my living areas, I’ve been known to keep a few in my office. They migrate wherever I need them. Love that!

Power Strip

Sometimes, it really is the little things.

Dealing with an annoying tangle of electronic cords day after day is its own kind of displeasure.

Same with having to plug and unplug devices because you don’t have enough outlets.

My solution is this Power Surge Strip I found in 2020. It’s still going strong.

The cord is solid and durable. And its 8 outlets allow me to keep all my device’s plugs organized in one area.

Stackable Storage

These were a Goodwill find, but they’re so handy. They look exactly like the Amazon ones linked here.

My neurodivergent brain loves that the units are clear. Everything stays organized, and they don’t “disappear” because I can’t see what’s inside.

Whenever you need or can get away with them, clear storage items are it.

Work from Home Organization Ideas for THE OFFICE

Office bookshelf

This bookshelf impressed me because of its ease of assembly and sturdiness. This was another 2020 find, and it's still holding up well.

The space is more than adequate for my office printer, and it holds a lot of weight - which I need.

I can keep office supplies handy and organized. I also tuck plastic curriculum bins in it and mix those with cute decor for my Zoom background.

A Quick Working from Home Desk Idea

Desk Organizer

This aesthetic metal tray organizer could work in many places around the home or office. I like it on my desk because it gives me so much bang for the buck.

It can hold a few journals or an iPad, has 3 letter trays, a small stand for a phone, or an inspirational card. It also has 3 drawers for sticky notes, index cards, etc. If you remove the drawers, the space can be another letter tray.

It’s amazingly compact to fit so many things. You could buy more than one to create a matchy unit of them (plus more storage, of course).

Also, can we talk about the color choices?

Working from Home Organization Ideas for LIVING SPACES

Vacuum Seal Bags

These are amazing for storing fabrics and seasonal clothes. I use them to separate clothes that don’t currently fit from my everyday working wardrobe. This helps me feel truly good about the clothes in my closet.

I tried cheaper versions of the vacuum seal bags, but I found that the name brand is where it's at with this particular item. The cheaper ones leaked when I added my clothing and attempted to seal them.

Glass jars

While I’ve loved all the different glass jars I’ve purchased on Amazon, these are my favorite because of their size and ease of use. I bought them in 2022, and they’re not showing any real wear and tear.

Magnetic Storage Racks for the Side of the Fridge

These are so awesome for my smaller kitchen.

They add extra space and create clear zones for different items.

I use mine as a tea center. Each of my herbal loose-leaf teas is nestled within a pretty glass jar. The jars are highly visible, so they remind my ADHD brain that they’re there and prompt me to take a “tea moment.”

Visual cues can be game-changers for keeping or starting habits. Put the stuff you want to use where you can see it. An aesthetic that draws you in and gives you a little pleasure also gives you something to look forward to.

Drawer Dividers

Now, I’d love to go all Marie Kondo and tell you I started with these, but nope. I used cardboard from leftover Amazon boxes as my first drawer dividers.

When I went searching for the perfect upgrade, I got these.

I use them in my kitchen and my closet for socks. They really keep everything in their place.

Living Room Bookshelf

Bookshelves are one of the most effective ways to add a good amount of storage to any room.

Because it was going in my living room, I needed a functional and beautiful piece. This did the trick.

It was easy to assemble, and it’s sturdy.  I adore this style and love looking at it.

I hope this little list of 10 work from home must-haves helps you find something you love!
